As part of our citizenship awarness programme, in December 2015 was implemented ‘We are British, We are European’ project. It targeting disadvantaged young people in London. The aim of this project was to initiate an open dialogue and discussion between the disadvantaged young people and decision-makers. Some of the issues addressed during the project were related to the lack of opportunities, disengagement and social exclusion of disadvantaged young people, the UK’s European perspective, European identity and citizenship understanding among young black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We managed to reach out for the local politicians and the representatives of the EC office in London. The project participants made a short film on the current challenges faced by young people and prepared recommendations for the decision-makers on how to engage with BAME young people.
